I was lucky enough to spot a Golden Eagle stooping down into a field at the side of the road yesterday, while we were driving to Heidelberg.
Sadly I didn't have my camera with me at the time, or I'd have taken a picture!
Whatever it was after managed to get away, in any event, but it was wonderful to see. First I've seen in many years, since I moved away from the Highlands.
Almost enough to make me want to start going out birdwatching...

Shame it wasn't enough to make you check the terminology and realise that birders or birdwatchers hate being lumped in with twitchers, and that both hate the tirm 'birdspotting'! If you don't understand, read 'Bill Oddie's Little Black Bird Book' from the pre-Humble days.

I dont mind the terminology! I just like spotting something that is beautiful to watch!
Yesterday with my new binocs I saw a big dog fox running home very late at 10am and on the same walk a Jay and a Kestrel.
Lovely!
;D

Spent time at New Fancy Viewpoint in the Forest of Dean on Saturday looking for the mythical Goshawks. best bird seen - a Green Woodpecker! Was with my 9-year-old grandson who is interested in birds, but without the patience for a long wait on a draughty hill-top. Went on to Cannop Ponds which were much more productive.

I heard a Whipoorwill last night - if you've ever heard a baby's heartbeat on a monitor, it sounds a lot like that! A high pitchy sort of swoosh-swoosh noise.
There are mockingbirds here, scrub jays (very rare and protected), there's been a bald eagle sighted but I've not seen it yet, loads of turkey buzzards, and plenty of cardinals, though they are so fast I haven't had a chance to get a photo yet. They are SO red!

Spotted this in the garden about a week ago, not seen one before. Long-tailed Tit. They are soooo purdy!! We get them in our garden in a gang of about 6 or 7. I love the noise they make too - the announce their presence! Lovely photo!

Lucky to get one at rest they always remind me of a band of marauders as they fly overhead to sweep the tree branches for grubs always seem to be on the move.

Fabulous little fluffballs.

We are also lucky to have long tailed tits, visit our garden. Only once did one land on the bird feeder, I think it was a young one looking for somwhere to land. We usually have them in groups of 5. xx

I haven't had the time to go birding recently, but I've seen whitethroats and a chiffchaff when out walking the dog. Sometimes I see more when I leave the bins at home!

Tits Last week having seen no action we felt that the nest had been abandoned. Foolishly I tried to lift the lid but luckily as it turned out I had mounted it too high below the over hang of the shed roof.
