The weather here has been just wonderful today and just to cap it all I've not been to work so I've spent it planting roses up my new pergola, experimenting with an old rope I found on the beach by hanging it in loops along a wall to give the clematis Rubens oderata yet more room and generally plotting the next step in my garden re-vamp. One thing that worried me though was I only saw two butterflies all day one white and on red admiral. I plant my garden for wild life and it is run on organic lines so its not as if they are giving it a wide berth they just aren't there. Wots goin' on??

Kay, Have you checked your deodorant??
Seriously though, there is a marked shortage here too. (Cheshire) I found a Peacock butterfly, still alive, in the log store in December before the snow came. I've seen an assortment of Butterflies this year but not that many now I think about it. But it's the Bees that worry me. I haven't seen any for weeks.

I blame those vuvu-noisey-things - enough to confuse any right minded bee trying to find a mate. Hot weather, windows open, noise coming out of every footy pub and household....prob come out to play once the it all over

There's been very few flutter-byes in Hull as well.

A year later, and they're still missing. Have only seen cabbage whites recently. But quite a few bees - they seem to like my lavender plant!

How strange you should return to this thread now. In the garden this morning we were inundated with hundreds of butterflies sunning themselves on the buddleia and raised beds; we had red admirals, tortoiseshells, cabbage whites and even the odd peacock. There were a few big fat bumble bees too.
