Now that I almost have my release date from work I want to get into the garden I have pottered around in for years. It has been a multi sports pitch as the kids grew up and a petting zoo over the years!!!! I am looking for advice on what sort of things I should plant given the fact that most stuff is in pots as the garden is covered in paving and chuckies. Is there anything which can be planted now and can anyone recommend a SIMPLE book which takes you through the garden year? Bear in mind that I am in the West of Scotland so tropical desert plants may not flourish! ;D

The main thing you have to remember, Lumi, is that winter comes earlier and spring comes later than in the rest of the country!

How about planting potatoes in a large potato grow bag thingy or in a big pot? You bung in one or two seed potatoes (or sprouted ones from the back of the larder!), and cover over with compost. As the greenery appears add more compost to cover and keep repeating until the bag/pot is pretty full.
You should get some potatoes for December time.
