Growing spuds for the first time, and tonight I noticed that a few of the flowers(?) had dropped off but left behind growing what look like tomatoes! now I know I'm a daft bat, but how can this be please? (I squished one and it looked like a tommy inside too) oh and while I'm at it, dare I ask when I should have a go at digging them up - some still have blooms on and lots of leaves etc. I thank you xxx

Have never grown potatoes so I'm not much help, I'm afraid. But I found the following (from Wikipedia): "After potato plants flower, some varieties produce small green fruits that resemble green cherry tomatoes, each containing up to 300 true seeds. Potato fruit contains large amounts of the toxic alkaloid solanine and is therefore unsuitable for consumption." Here's the link to the website - it will tell you all you ever need to know about potatoes, and more! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PotatoHappy eating.
