BTW Due to the redevelopment of the summit cafe and station, the train will not actually make it to the summit. It stops at Clogwyn, 1094 (vertical) ft below the actual summit. I'm not sure what the distance would be to the summit from this point. I'm fairly certain that it should be possible to safely follow the route of the tracks up to the summit and return the same way.

The easiest path up Snowdon follows the train lines....which makes some sense when you think about it (even though it's a rack/rail railway it's not upto modern Swiss standards). It's called the Llanberis path but it's more common name is the Tourist Path. The bit from the station is not as tedious at the bit at the start because you have some great views.
