When I confessed to my murderous habits in the garden... someone said that the big orange slugs only ate dead leaves. Well I went out this morning and found one who had not read the note on the Togs website... he was eating my foxgloves and he was not afraid of heights!
He is no longer with us...

I remember reading an article by some TV gardening bloke who said that whilst most gardeners are lovely, gentle people, but when it comes to slugs and snails the gloves are off!
In the article the TV gardening bloke quoted a survey of readers' ideas on how to deal with slugs and snails - one bloke had put 'shotgun'.
I admire his restraint.

I have a fantastic likkle book someone bought me called 'The greatest gardening tips in the world' by Steve Brooks.
For things in ceramic pots, he suggests a good spray of the pot with WD40 - seems to be working so far!!!
I agree - I spend aages growing, tending, pricking out and planting things. It really makes the bile rise unreasonably when they are reduced to mere sticks in one night!!

So why do we not do like the French does and find a recipe for the little bar-stewards? 'Slugs avec jus de tomate?' 'Snail Anglaise avec pomme de frites et une salade verte?'- et beaucoup de Pinot Grigio. (ps as you can see, can't spell grenouilts/lesslugsenglish/etc ) Must be a heap of protein in the little suckers. Would still rather suck another Togs' toenail 'though... Maybe!

PMR's uncle (who has been dead quite a long while now) used to go out into his garden in the summer evenings with a torch and a carving knife. He just cut the dear little slugs in half.
One evening a neighbour became very curious to know he was up to with a flash-light and a carving night.
I don't think the police were actually called.

I don't get on with my next door neighbour as The Old Bag is forever poking her secateurs through my fence and butchering my shrubs. So, whenever I find a large slug, I lob it over the fence into her prize bedding plants.
It makes me feel so much better. ;D Soup

My father favoured the torch-and-hoe method of slug control similar to Rev's description above. He claimed he was merely providing comvenience food for the hedehogs!
