Dear Nostradamus is great by err someone but I can't for the life of me think who...
will make you cry.
Oddly enough loads of books can make me cry if I'm in 'that' mood just by relating to me in someway.

This thread led me to go an buy Captain Corelli's Mandolin - I haven't finished it yet, but by heck it is a good book, and I cried over it last night - how incredibly bleak it was, and yet it has also had me howling with laughter (the drunken priest!).
Thank you for suggesting it!

Well.
I lay awake all night, finishing the Book Thief.
I sobbed my heart out towards the end. Just when I thought I couldn't cry any harder, it grew sadder. And sadder.
A perfect book.

xxxIt was, quite simply, one of the best books I have ever read. I praised it so much to Hubby that he read it too - and agreed that it is brilliant. Now, what shall I read next? Caddi

If you enjoy a good cry then I suggest you read "Street Kid" by Judy Westwater. ISBN 0-00-722201-7.
I could not put the book down and cried all night

The first book that made me cry was 'Lassie' and I was about 8 years old.
The latest book to make me cry was 'The Kite Runner'. I cannot believe that we live in a world that allows this level of bigotry and inhumanity to exist.

I have just finished "The art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. I like dogs and I like motor racing and Johnny Fart Pants bought me the book. It made me cry twice near the end. But very good.

I remember reading Charlotte's Webb at primary school, 48 years ago. I don't remember much about it.

Lots of books have made me cry but Hannibal Rising really got to me. I suddenly fully understood who he was and why he became the person he did and felt a deep respect for him.

The ending of The Kite Runner was so simple , full of hope and beautifully written i could barely read it through the tears, and the chapter were Mariam accepts her punishment with such dignity in A Thousand Splendid Suns is devastatingly tragic. Oh and Wuthering Heights..... and the end of The Ghost and Mrs Muir.........

Also after Ispent a holiday on Crete and visited the Island The book by Ian Hislops wife ! I have just re-read H.M.S. Ulysses. Brilliant! It was the first "adult" - as in grown-up .......... stop sniggering - book that I read, father handed it to me one day as I was wandering around looking for something to read and just said "Try it". I loved it and have had a massive soft spot for it ever since. It is such a powerful book.

The Velveteen Rabbit......Metaphor for life I think. A book for children, very well written. I hope someone loves me when all my fur is rubbed off and my eye has dropped out.
