... so can we have some stories that will lift up our spirits?
There really are so many good things happening in this world today - but they are swamped by all the nasty things that get into the news. Sadly it is bad things that sell newspapers.
When I was a newsagent/bookshop manager in the 1950s there was a newspaper that came out called 'The Good News Paper' (or something like that).
Its aim was to tell us about all the lovely, kind, thoughtful things that were happening in the world. - it went out of business after a few weeks or months because comparatively few people bought it.
But we're not a newspaper and we don't have to make a profit.
So, let's have your good news items so that we can all be cheered up.
I look forward to your contributions - which will all be welcomed and appreciated.

I haven't worn my togs sweatshirt for some while. Perhaps I should don it again. I do, however, have a fish symbol in the back of my car. This is mainly for me because many people know that it is an ancient Christian symbol. I have it there to remind me that if I drive stupidly or selfishly I am bringing the Christian cause into disrepute. No doubt togs or other religions, and none, have similar objects that remind them to act kindly towards others.

It is a shame that the good news newspaper went out of business. I feel that nowadays every newspaper is full of doom and gloom and how such and such a thing will kill you, I think it is sad I think deep down most people are kind and good, it's just that we don't often get to hear about it.

Quite true. I've just found this quote from an old Victorian preacher - C.H. Spurgeon: 'I would not give much for your religion unless it can be seen. Lamps do not talk, but they do shine.'

When I returned to work (I am a receptionist at a doctor's surgery) on Monday after my holiday last week, I noticed the girls had pinned a letter from a patient on the door.
She is recovering well after an illness and wrote to say how happy she was with the doctor who saw her throughout and that the receptionists where always " delightful and helpful - not a 'dragon' amongst them".
It made me realise how easy it is for people to complain - we very rarely bother to make a fuss of something nice. Maybe it's time we made time to say thank you, as it does bring a smile to those on the receiving end!

I do hope you are feeling better Rev. I got a phone call the the bank manager today, to let me know a loan has been agreed, just got some more paperwork etc then its in the bank. So, i'm not sure if it's good news for the public, but it means that the MOG and I will be going into business soon. (thinks to myself - *now i've gone and done it!*). Best wishes,
sarah xx

Best wishes, sarah xx What great news Sarah - and also from Lily. I am very quick to write and complain when a company or organization does something wrong. I also like to think that I'm just as quick to drop them a line when things have gone well. Sadly we sometimes discover that 'we don't have time' to do the latter. When I had a very nice young consultant remove a possibly-nasty mole from my back (but I'm pleased to say that it wasn't a bad one) I wrote to my MP to say how glad I was to get such cheerful and efficient treatment. Laster the Doctor wrote to me to thank me for writing to my MP to say what good service I received. I think my eight years as a shop manager taught me how important it is to compliment people for good service as well as complain when we don't get it.

My news for the day is TYG has passed his HND foundation degree in Architecture and now goes on to his Bachelor of Science and all while he is doing a full time job as an Architectural technician for the local council so after July 8th there will be another picture of him in his cap and gown to go on the wall making a grand total of 3 pictures so far. To make it even better the ceremony is held in St David's Cathedral which on mine and PML's first date I referred to it as a nice little church....well I am English how was I to know? Also it is the place the first Sir Wogan is buried. Straight after the ceremony I have to get to Cardiff with PML to see Rod Steward in concert so if you are driving passed me please keep your eyes on the road as I will be doing a quick change of clothes in the car.

Hello Rev. This is a wonderful idea as I'm sure something wonderful happens somewhere every single day. I don't read newspapers or watch the news. I decided a while ago that it was just too sad and life is hard enough to cope with as it is without the media hype. My good news materialised on Saturday. I have an 'adopted' elderly gent that I keep an eye on. He's 91, very poor sighted and hard of hearing and he has no one except an even older sister who lives in Wales. He suffered the dreadful upheaval of having to move after 30 something years in his home. It really worried me because it's bad enough for anyone getting on in years but at 91, he should have been settled for the rest of his life. He was so disorientated during the first few weeks that he couldn't work the intercom to let me in, couldn't find his way to and from the lift and when he got there, he couldn't see which buttons to press. He couldn't remember how to work the shower or the heating and kept turning his thermostat off. I was beside myself to know what to do and then, last Saturday, it all fell into place for him, bless his cotton socks. His heating was working, he said he'd just come out of the shower and what a great way it was to wash his hair. He knew where the lift was and he let me in first time around. Phew! What a relief. Well, it's good news to me. I look forward to reading other stories on here. It'll be a refreshing change. Love Nuala xx

Like your son, my Tyg is doing her masters in creative writing and literature and I shall be hanging another picture up on the wall but not till next year as she doesn't finish this course till September and like you I will be going to see the man himself Rod Stewart on the 3rd at Ipswich ;D Can't wait.

Lily, what can I say. I have been going to the same Dr surgery for 26 years, and only the newest receptionist (there are 4) never asks for my name. She knows who I am, and I salute her. There is one receptionist who is always on the phone to here friends and family, and ignores all patients waiting at the desk.

I have patients I have known for over 10 years. In my surgery it is very informal, so most people call me by my first name, apart from the stuffy ones, who glance over their shoulder and say "Thank you nurse"

the FMA is in America, visiting his son and daughter for the first time in 6 years. He's just met his two younger grandchildren for the first time and his oldest grandson for the second time, and they've really taken to him. His granddaughter fell asleep on his lap!
When he e-mailed to tell me I nearly cried, I was so happy for him.
