Can I put my beetroot in them? Are they deep enough? I am on the waiting list for an allotment but want to grow as much as I can in my garden until such time as one becomes available.

I'm not sure they would be deep enough but don't take my word for it. They might do better in a pot where they have more room to grow perhaps.

A pot would probably be best for beetroot, but a grow bag could possibly work as they aren't as deep rooted a plant as carrots or parsnips. They seem to grow in an more *oniony* fashion. Make sure though that you *fluff up* your grow bag soil first to get the bag as fat as possible.

Thank you Cheesy and Rose, I shall try it and keep you posted. I have my iceberg lettuce in grow bags and sprouts, both doing well.

I would say not Faery. I watching a very old Gardners' World the other day and Geoff Hamilton was saying don't even plant tomatoes in grow bags as they really need more room. As beetroot grow more underneath the soil, I wouldn't think that there wouldn't be enough room for them.

Dad always grew his tomatoes in grow-bags without any hassle at all.
Faery... you might want to look at this sort of thing as an alternative
*raised beds*

I have a fairly small garden Kels and have a number of raised beds in it already, the only room left is for tygs and growbags! I'm getting desperate for an allotment!
