Sorry to be a pain (well not truly sorry) but if we can try for clear and concise titles on here we can create a set of posts that could be easily searched using the search facility. This could prove useful once the number of posts has grown beyond a handful of pages.
Here endeth the first lesson. Sorry Michael I beat you to it.

Good idea Carl, but I wouldn't like to bet on everyone following the advise - would you?

I agree, and with one or two exceptions, most people are doing just that.
So far.

As it could on the Serious Board as well.

Yes, I am agreeable with Lord L et al. A title like 'Oi Carl' etc. doesn't give a clue what the post is about. In my opinion every title and headline should give a clear indication of what it is all about.
Although I am keen on using the proper botanical name, common names ought to be acceptable as well.
The thread entitled 'Mint' tells us exactly what it is about.

Whilst I understand what Carl is getting at, this is a board for TOGs and I'm seriously uncomfortable with trying to make it too organised. For instance, whatever the original topic, the thread may swerve off topic into all sorts of eventually unrelated, but useful, subjects and/or humour. I see it more as taking the place of a neighbourly chat over the fence, which, being TOGs, would naturally drift onto different subjects, include the odd joke or three and inevitably get forgotten or be ignored by some, so the subject has to be repeated. Don't misunderstand me, I have no objection to clear and concise titles, but I'm not sure they will achieve as much as may be expected. And I certainly have no intention of modding anyone for going off topic, being humorous or using a vague title. Anyone, as far as I am aware, can add to a title to reveal any otherwise hidden gems. If I'm not correct in that, I'll do it, so long as whoever's asking remembers to say 'please'!

Anyone, as far as I am aware, can add to a title to reveal any otherwise hidden gems. If you mean that anyone can add to the title of a whole thread, Fi, I don't think we can. We have the option of changing the title for our own post, but I don't think it has any effect on the title that shows on the contents page.
Should I be proved wrong in this I shall, of course, eat humble pie!

Obviously the threads will go off topic - though I am trying hard honest. And individual posts can have whatever title the poster chooses. I am pretty sure that the search facility - flawed as it is - will pick up things from the body of the post as well but harder for those of failing sight to see.

I'm so glad we can use humour - although I can't think of anything funny at the moment, but give me a month or two and I might come up with something.
