I have solar lights in my garden and some of them are about 6 years old and this year they are not working. I was wondering could it be the batteries have finally died and therefore can I replace them with any rechargable battery or do they have to be a certain kind.

This should really be answered by our resident queen of garden tat, However
If removing the batteries and cleaning up the terminals etc doesn't work buy some new lights.
2 rechargeable batteries can cost you £3 to £5
6 lights can be had for a tenner.

The batteries in my solar lights are rechargable so every now and then I take the batteries out of my solar lights and give them a boost in the charger.

I was wondering the same thing.....I have 10 lights all bought at the same time, and about 4 of them don't work now. Surely (I thought) if I got new batteries they would work again.
Dunno about getting 10 new lights for a tenner Murf, I got new ones yesterday, and they cost me £19, reduced from £29

The batteries are recharged by the solar power.
Like Daxie, a couple of my set of ten failed to work this year - due, I think, to poor battery maintenence. i.e. the failed fittings were the ones in the shadier parts of the garden so the batteries never benefitted from proper full recharge cycles. I tried bunging them in the charger, but they are properly dead! I compromised on the above ideas by sourcing some cheap rechargeables from ebay.
Come the winter, I'll bring all the batteries indoors and give them a proper long charge, and maybe use them in remote controls or something so that they get proper charge/discharge cycles. (NiCad's need to 'learn' their charging cycles for optimum functionality.)
