But I am intrigued as to what the heck this tryffid type thing is that grows about a foot a day. Any suggestions please?

What kind of flowers does it have on it? Is that one of it's flowers that is level with the bottom of the fourth slat down of your fence?
I could well be wrong, but it looks very much like, what some people call, a weed.
But if you like it, then keep it and enjoy.

if it is a white flower then it is a weed that we used to call 'granny pop out of bed' because if you pop the flowers it shoots off the stem.

Looks like white bryony to me (Bryonia dioica). Grows up to 4m?

I don't know what the big thing is - there's a wide choice with that sort of leaf - wait untill it flowers Redders.

Poisonous Plant - White Bryony
Latin Name: Bryonia dioica
Low Risk
Description: Greenish-white flowers with five lobed leaves and coiled tendrils. Brilliant orange-red berries in winter.
Symptoms may include: Digestive disturbance with acute diarrhoea, profuse urination, profuse sweating, respiratory difficulty, inco-ordination, convulsions and occasionally cessation of defecation. Also animals are unwilling to move.
Notes: The roots are especially dangerous and should be burnt. Cases of poisoning in horses has been reported.
