Is there anything I should know before I hack prune the apple tree I inherited from the previous owner? It has given us 3 apples a year, deep red and sweet, but it is getting too big for its situation. It is only about 3 or 4 years old from what we can make out.
There are a couple of decent sized branches that if I remove them it will reduce the height and bulk.
If you want a pic, I can run out and get some!
Ta muchley!

We find you can trim back more or less as you like but do make sure you leave some of this/last years new branches as they are the ones that supply the fruit!
Have a look at this Apple Tree Pruning

I think my problem with apple trees is thatI have never lived anywhere long enough to have to prune one. And strangely enough I can well believe that We had a neighbour once who never lived anywhere long enough to have to prune an apple tree (barely long enough to have to prune a rose bush!)
His creditors finally caught up with him on the South coast, trying to escape to mainland Europe!!! ;D
