I am amazed at how far advanced the gardens are this year. Although it has been a dull, wet, miserable day today I noticed that Just Joey was shining out in the gloom for all he was worth. There are still lots more to bloom (60 different ones in my small garden) but these have cheered me up no end. I don't think this picture captures the joy I felt but here goes anyway: Felicia (Hybrid Musk - 1928 is climbing up the right hand side of the arch and Sweet Juliet (David Austin 1989) is on the extreme right of the photo. Zephirine Drouhin (Bourbon Climber - 1868) is on the left hand side of the arch (but no blooms are on show in this photo). Do others have roses in bloom very early this year?

Everything seems to be earlier. I guage my daffodils by my son's birthday. March 12th 10 years ago, when he was born, our first 2 daffs opened in our garden and my husband picked them and brought them into hospital - one for me one, for Alex.
This year, the first ones opened February 25th!
I only have one rose bush (to be amended this year), called Buff Beauty. It has survived being planted and replanted about 5 times and opened its first flower on Friday. Looks very similar to the flower in the front of the photo you posted, Rev.

Yes, Buff Beauty if a lovely rose. In my photo it looks similar but, in fact, Just Joey is very much more orangy.

I think it's all right if not all of the petals fall to the ground. (Retired Ministers don't get 'ex-ed'; they just fade away - a bit like old soldiers).
