I've had it for many years but this year it is producing lovely blooms. There is little fragrance but it has nice valvety sheen on it. This one is my Comte de Chambord (Portland 1860) which I have had for many years, but it has never bloomed so prolifically before. It is a parent of my favourite ' Gertrude Jekyll.

I don't know if you are an RHS memeber Rev, but if you are, and email them a photo and description, they'll do their best to identify it for you, if no one else can help. www.rhs.org.uk/advicewill point you in the right direction.

Thanks Brom. Yes we are members of RHS and have several times used them in the past. I hadn't thought of emailing them a photo though. Perhaps I'll try it. I noticed today that it does have a slight fragrance.

If only your pictures weren't so small I might have been able to identify it ... *sniggers* Sorry about that. Is this any better? I know very little about roses, but it looks like one of David Austin's English Roses - have you tried looking on his website: www.davidaustinroses.com/english/

Thanks Shuggie. I've both David Austin and Peter Beale's excellent catalogues. I never thought of looking in them - and.or the websites.
I'll do that.
