For the benefit of all who post on this board I want to make the following quite clear and hopefully avoid any further hassle on this board. This board is for all forms of creative arts except poetry and the written word although at the moment photography seems to be the main thing, which is what this post is about.
Anyone can post their pictures. You do not have to be a semi pro highly skilled amateur to use this board. However, when you post pictures on here they are open for others to comment on, or you are able to comment on pictures others have posted.
We all have personal tastes in what we like to see in photos. For example a technically perfect photo of a striking Cobra is not one that Ivy would personally see as good, purely because of the subject matter. Criticism or advice on the composition of the picture or the technical details, done in a constructive way by someone who has the skills and knowledge to be able to do that can be of great help to those who post on here. So if you are posting pictures be prepared to be offered advice by others, even if you don't take it. If you are posting comments on pictures please make it clear if you are talking personal preferences or offering skilled advice.

Please can we have a definition of 'skilled' as most of us are but amateurs with some skills obtained over time.

Please can we have a definition of 'skilled' as most of us are but amateurs with some skills obtained over time. By skilled on this board I mean those who are likely to be recognised as having the knowledge to offer others constructive advice. This skill does not need to be a formal qualification or anything other than self taught. If you can take pictures that people look at and think are good. Then I am sure that they will be happy to accept helpful advice on their own pictures. Just to make it clear that anyone is welcome to post a comment on wether they personally like a picture or not whatever level of skill they may have or not have.

Well said Paul!
I will happily post pictures on here - usually with a reason, and will readily admit to being an enthusiastic amateur who occasionally takes a good photo. All criticism is welcome.
Glen
PS. Hopefully will post some Beamish pics after next weekend.

Although criticism has a general connotation of being a negative opinion, it can be both positive and/or negative.

The togs.org site is such an informal and friendly site - if i upload anything I create it would be because I thought it would be fun to do so. And maybe add a little fun to someone elses day.
I won't offer negative comments about anyone else's work. They may be so proud of what may have been their first creation ever - and I wouldn't know it was their first effort. People should create. Keep creating. Support each other.

I tend to agree with your sentiment Hugh but this board was created by Mick in response to requests for a board similar in style to the 'Creative Writing' board. In other words not for family snaps (any more than the Creative Writing board is for 'shopping lists') but for pictures that the taker considers have some merit and also when they wish for some positive critique of what they are posting so as to be able to improve their technique.
Pictures that have a more general interest [for example Bash pictures] are IMHO better posted elsewhere as they are then likely to attract a larger number of viewers. I post photographs that I consider have merit on here and those that have a purely fun element I would post on the Forum, pictures of say pets or family I would post on the Notice Board (I get a bigger audience that way:).

I have just pasted a group of three photographs above and cannot see them Thewy are still in my clipboard as I am have been able to insert them in an EMail. Hi Terry, You need to insert the http or URL address of the picture between these symbols: (img)(/img) - (but with square brackets). You can do this by clicking on the picture icon when you are in the Reply screen - it's the fourth icon along on the bottom row (after 'Tube' - which is for inserting Youtube clips, the arrow & the globe symbol - which is for inserting website addresses). To find the http or URL address, if it's a picture you have found on the internet, right click on it, then scroll down to 'properties' and left click. Copy the whole of the URL address, which you can then 'paste' between the middle 2 brackets of (img)(/img) - (but with square brackets). This will probably work for pictures that you have been sent in a jokey email too. If it's a photograph of your own that you want to post, it needs to be stored on a website - such as 'photobucket' ( photobucket.com/ ) - so that you can then copy & paste the URL. Photobucket is easy to register with & use - I managed it, so it must be! You can pm me if you have any problems. Dinah XX
