Mather's to be precise.
farnleyandwortleyward.info/mathers_black_beer.htm
I found it on the sherry shelf in Morrisons. Less than £2 a bottle
Recommended by a colleague as an addition to a stiff whisky, for medicinal purposes, it's quite a pleasant malty drink on its own. A warming but none too alcoholic nightcap.
I had a little left the other night so I threw about a wine glass full in with some mince I was knocking up for my dinner .
Absolutely superb. As the gravy stains on my shirt will testify
It has all the attributes of beer in cooking but is far less watery. Should do well in any beef recipe which needs a rich gravy, steak and ale pie frinstance.
I commend it to the house
PS.
A quick web search revealed it can be drunk with quite a few spirits so it won't go amiss.

Nothing at all.
I've not tasted anything like it before.
It's got the consistency of a liquer and a strong malty taste.
