Getting close to the end of this book, now.
It's pretty good - not the best he's written, but not the worst. In some ways it is a very slow-moving book, in that the denouement builds up very slowly and in some ways surprisingly.
The influence of King's own horrific accident is evident in the health situation of the leading character and two supporting characters who play a key role in the tale.
It reminds me at times of 'It', in a way. A child's doll as opposed to a clown, and much less blood and gore, but still has themes in common.
It is largely responsible for my current lack of sleep!

I'm waiting for it to arrive at my local library...I really enjoyed his previous one ( Lisey's Story ), so I hope this one won't be too disappointing.

I became somewhat disillusioned with him a few years ago, around the time of 'Insomnia'. Although that is really a better book than I gave him credit for. It was just too slow-moving for me!
Have you read any of Peter Straub's books, Peekie? I can really recommend Ghost Story and Floating Dragon, in particular.
Straub and King co-wrote 'The Talisman' and 'Black House' together. Some of their best work ever!

Aye, I've read all of Straub's , Tig, and also Richard Bachmann who is King in disguise.
I've waded through quite a few Dean Koontz too ,lol.

I used to love Dean Koontz, but got a bit disillusioned with him, too!
I hate the Dark Tower books by Stephen King.
I did at one point read the Bachman books, but somehow they didn't seem quite as good. Funny, that.

Well, I finished the book over the weekend...and I am half-minded to go back and read it all over again right away, it was so good.
And I've felt that way about only two or three other books in the rest of my life thus far.
It is brilliant. Really, really brilliant.

I've finally got my hands on a copy, and am about halfway through.....absolutely loving it.
I wonder how much of the story was down to King's own accident.
Sorry...gotta go and read some more now !

I wondered about that, too, Peekie!
It's a great read, isn't it?

Finished it !!
I have to say I thought some of it at the end was just a wee bit drawn out, but loved the basic idea of the story.
I will read it again, but for the moment my favourite of his is Lisey's Story ( from the later books he has written...It will always be my outright fave).

I think you should (if you haven't yet) look for C J Sansom next time you visit the library!
Dissolution, Dark Fire, Sovereign and Resolution (I think that's the latest one) all feature Matthew Shardlake and are set in the 1500s during the time of Henry VIII. Cracking murder/mystery stories with a sinister twist in every one. Really fantastically well-written and great characters.

Euuuuwww, the 1500s, not sure about that !
Will it be under sci fi or historical novels, lol.

Neither!
The historical stuff is fairly incidental in some ways, I hate historical novels usually. These are really good murder mysteries first and foremost!

I had a quick look online before trotting down to the library...it said that Kenneth Branagh is due to be filming the Sansom books for tv, but as they didn't have the first one in the series, I'll have to reserve it. I will try them but can't guarantee I'll stick with them, lol.

Oh, Gawd!
Branagh's far too old - and too histrionic!
