Living in a hilly area I can't walk or run without pounding up and down gradients. It's great fun but I do oft pay the price in 'Runners Knee' ( a misnomer since I also get knee pain on sharp descents when walking ) . Certainly a Lekkie, or other sound, pole will help the descents but when running its so much harder.....till NOW !!!
Scholl Gel Insoles are slim enough to replace the cheap insoles that come as standard in running shoes and walking boots ( apart from the laces, these are the next area where manufacturers cut cost).
I've used them for the past week or so and can truly say that they give me extra miles from my knees.
At 2 1/2 stone overweight I have to watch what I do, but these things are superb, and have extended my endurance training by about 20%).
About a fiver from Tesco...or indeed your local chemist.
If you suffer on the hills, try a pair..
....JUST REMEMBER TO SPEND SOME TIME CUTTING THEM TO FIT !!! ( I did an half @rsed job at first and got a toe blister. I corrected it and all is well now.)

Thanks for that Choppy I use poron insoles, as recommended by a physio ages ago www.foothealthcare.com/acatalog/poroninsoles.htmlI've forgotten how to do the clicky thingy, and I'm too lazy to go and look it up, but that's one of several links I found on Google.

But I meant to say that I'll give the Scholl ones a go as well, cos their party feet range is great for when you wear high heels ....
