Worth a go? Nothing serious, and anyone who describes a section of singletrack as 'well gnarly, dude' will be spanked with a tyre pump, but it's an idea, isn't it? It's a lovely idea... Pity my bike's one of those stupid trail bike things...doesn't cope overly well with offroad biking (hence skidding in sand and getting thorn punctures when cycling along bridle paths).

I've only had the blooming thing about four months! (And been banned from cycling since June by the chiropractor, following my tumble in May).
I might be naughty and cycle to the village shop in a bit, though. See how the shoulder copes with cycling onroad.

Mine is a trail bike rather than a mountain bike. All that give in the forks makes me feel sick.
I wouldn't mind a good suspension seat post though cos my bum feels like it's spent a week in Strangeways.

I have a gel saddle but with a gel cover too, it does give a little more padding for the posterior. I am happy to say the shoulder seemed fine with a gentle ride on the roads to the shop and back. No twinges or anything like that to speak of. No sign of it stiffening up yet either, but I will see what tomorrow brings.

I may have a wide rear, but that doesn't mean my bum is well padded. It's all on the hips, you see.

My mountain bike has suspension - it makes it hard work to ride on the road though - thinking of trading it in for a road racer

My mountain bike has suspension - it makes it hard work to ride on the road though - thinking of trading it in for a road racer Rear suspension takes too much power out of the drive-train. A hard-tail with a sprung seat-post and gel saddle is the way to go. It's still a bit hard on the tailbone, but nowhere near as bad as without. Front suspension is a must.
