say thanks to whoever came up with the idea of this board. It's great! To be able to pop in ere and take a peek at the threads some of the stresses & strains of the day wash over one. Jesus said something about that too. Mt 11:28

A question I have been longing to ask the clergy. When the children approached Jesus, and the disciples shooed them away, did Jesus mean 'SUFFER' the children? Because we have to suffer them. So many of them children these days are badly behaved, because their parents are forever telling them how wonderful they are, and they have no respect for authority.

So many of them children these days are badly behaved, because their parents are forever telling them how wonderful they are, and they have no respect for authority. This is what the NIV says 13Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." This is the NKJ version 13 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” I hope this makes it a little clearer.

The word 'suffer' has changed in usage since the King James translation. The modern version says the same thing.

I couldn't agree with you more scoo. I taught for 16 years in a Comprehensive School and some parents would not allow themselves to think that their 'little darling' was anything but lovely - while they were, to use not very religious language 'a pain in the neck.' I really feel sorry for those children who get no example of good behaviour at home and are not corrected for their wrong-doing (I don't mean physically or mentally beaten - but given a suitable and effective punishment to bring them to see the error of their ways and help them to learn the right way to behave). You possibly are thinking of the proverb that says, 'Spare the rod and spoil the child' (Prov. 13:24 - Authorized Version of 1611). The verse goes on in the New International Version, 'he who loves [his son] is careful to discipline him.' I personally am against physical (and emotional) punishment but there are ways of teaching children the importance of good behaviour. As I've only had six children perhaps I know a little about it. I'm glad to say that all of mine grew up polite and obedient to sensible rules. But they weren't little angles all the time, by any means - just lively children. That's something that usually (but not always) comes when love is shown in the home. This was managed even when I became a single parent (at the age of 39) looking after four children on my own - ranging from 13 -5 years.
