Has anyone, with more knowledge of the bible, read the book Jesus The Man (can't remember the author)?
Basically it is an interpretation of the bible and specifically the dead sea scrolls as a gnostic code.
It is a bit of a dry read, but quite interesting.

Has anyone, with more knowledge of the bible, read the book Jesus The Man (can't remember the author)? Basically it is an interpretation of the bible and specifically the dead sea scrolls as a gnostic code. It is a bit of a dry read, but quite interesting. I don't know that one Beau, but I'll look out for it. Hopefully someone else will be able to throw more light on the subject. I think that the Gnostics didn't really get going until the first century AD but the Dead Sea Scrolls go back to the time before Christ but obviously this 'spirituality' that believed it was possible to be so lifted up that they were above other people spiritually had its beginnings much earler. They regarded themselves as superior to others because they were 'in the know' - i.e. they had spiritual knowledge which was hidden to 'lesser mortals'. Hence gnosticism. Paul refers to gnosticism in his letter to the Colossians (e.g.). - see (if you really want to), e.g. my commentary on Colossians and Philemon pp.91-95.
