A wise man can see more from the bottom of a well than a fool can from a mountain top. ~Author Unknown

A new day has dawned. And with it, countless new positive possibilities have been born. Certainly there are difficulties and obstacles in your life and in your world. Yet they are always outnumbered by your blessings.
Focus today on those blessings. Give your attention and your awareness to what's right with life.
Those who wish to control you and to take advantage of you will seek to fill your thoughts with fear and discouragement. Yet there is really no reason for you to be fearful or discouraged.
For life is not what someone tells you it will be. Life is precisely what you make it.
By focusing on the good things, on the positive possibilities, on your blessings and opportunities, you can make life truly magnificent. A new day has dawned, and you can choose to make it the best day ever.

We can have all the material benefits that money can buy but still miss out seeing the wonders of seeing a bird fly or hearing it sing, a young child's innocent laughter or be moved to tears and the glories of nature. Even if we are in the depths of trouble (like the bottom of a well) we can always find someone worse off than ourselves, and there is always something to be thankful for.

There is a hope in those words that I couldn't find earlier. Bless you xx

A new day has dawned, and you can choose to make it the best day ever. Thank you Mahatt. If you had wished to speak directly to me this morning, you couldn't have chosen better. There is a hope in those words that I couldn't find earlier. Bless you xx Nuala, I'm glad that Mahatt's post was helpful to you, of course. My worry is that those words come from a professional Motivator. Ralph Marston is a clever man who writes some great words but they don't often survive any sort of analysis. I would much sooner hear or read sincere words written by Michael Bentley or you or some of the other deep thinking and wise TOGs. I know they are true, honest, and have come from the heart rather than from a need to generate income. Look at Ralph's words: "difficulties and obstacles... always outnumbered by blessings." That's simply not necessarily true, although focusing on one particular blessing may help you cope when many things are wrong in your life. "Those who wish to control you and to take advantage of you will seek to fill your thoughts with fear and discouragement." - Well they might - but not necessarily. There are much more effective tools out there to control people. "Life is precisely what you make it" - We can have some influence on our lives but not as much as we'd like. We are influenced as much by events and where we are as by what we'd like to happen. How to make God laugh? - Tell him your plans! That's an old saying but it's much more true than Ralph Marston's waffle. "Focusing on the good things, on the positive possibilities, on your blessings and opportunities, you can make life truly magnificent. A new day has dawned, and you can choose to make it the best day ever." - You can make the best of any day but that doesn't make it the best day ever. The acid test of these words is, put them in the context of real life - perhaps ailing parents or sick children, for example. Ralph Marston's words don't survive first contact, back in the real world. Look for truly inspirational words in the Bible, the Koran etc or in the kind, generous and sympathetic words we often find here. I reckon we should steer clear of motivational speakers. Why do they exist? To provide income for themselves and as a management tool to get more work out of employees, is my experience.

Thanks, Adam, for those thoughtful words - and for your kind complement.

Thank you for that Adam. So far, for me, today has been a monumental day and not in a good sense. In my post, I was referring to the first line that caught my eye and gave me the hope I was searching for. That was all I needed at that point. A new day is dawning etc and especially what the Rev said about the bottom of the well. I had no idea who wrote the words that Mahatt put up or what the motive was behind them but they did it for me with their first line. I wasn't of a mind to analyse anything right then but even if I had been, that first line would probably have done it's work even then. I appreciate your kind thoughts Adam and your wish that I take heart and hope from other sources such as the Rev and I couldn't agree more but when I need it, I'll take it from wherever it reaches out to me.
Love Nuala xx

Love Nuala xx I totally agree with you, Nuala. It's not the source of the hope or inspiration, it's just that it was there when you needed it. Mahatt did you a big favour today - he was the source that mattered and the words he provided were just right. Another good lesson for an old cynic. Thank you.

I had no idea who wrote the words either, someone sent them to me in an email and they "hit the spot" for me. Anything that "touches" me I am prone to keep and refer back to, this was one of those. I don't personaly look for "deeper meanings" or try to "read into" what the person is saying, I like what I like and if I like stuff I am prone to sharing it and hoping other people like it too, much like my Mother Teresa Quote elswhere on this board.
