Night Swimming
I’ve taken up a hobby Though not one of my choosing The battle with my ovaries Is one that I am losing
For every night at bedtime My stupid skin starts leaking I think my body temperature Must need a little tweaking
When trying to get some slumber I start profusely sweating Hot flushes overcoming me The sheets and pillow wetting
And now begins the ritual I’m heating up immensely Throw off the quilt to cool me down Then shiver quite intensely
I pull the quilt back over Enjoying the brief snuggle I’m feeling cosy for a while Then lying in a puddle
The morning’s getting closer My hair’s stuck to the pillow The quilt comes off, back on, back off The human weeping willow
I’d love to get some shut-eye But know there is no winning Quicker than saying ‘Forty Winks’ I’m once again night swimming
