Growing Up
The child aspires to fearsome heights, His brain afire with wondrous flights Of fancy torn from comic books And daring born where dreaming brooks The chasms of the mind.
Spurning the bonds of reasoned thought, He wields a wand of magic wrought, To conjure forth a future built Of greater worth and lesser guilt Than reason would him find.
Then, as the years are stacked away And doused with tears, the dreams decay Into the sheer banality Of life and drear reality, Where hope is left behind.
Where hope becomes a steady job And living numbs the mind and robs The awe-struck child of all that awes; It tames the wild with rules and laws To strike him deaf and blind.
And if he learns the rules of life, To take his turn and take a wife, To ever strive to ‘play the man’, He’ll win a Private Pension Plan To give him peace of mind.

Terri evidently enjoyed it twice! (only teasing, Terri, I know it was just a computer blip!) I thought it was excellent, HD.
