Fanny Fusspot lived in a house
In the village of Tinkum Tay,
From the time she got up 'till she went back to bed
She never had time for play.
She lived all alone in her smart little home
That shone like a clean new pin.
If a neighbour she saw she would chat at the door,
But never invited them in.
She worked very hard sweeping her yard
And keeping her lawn trim and neat.
She once had a cat, but she got rid of that,
Said she couldn't stand four dirty feet.
Although she was fussy and sometimes quite bossy,
She really was sweat and kind.
She got quite a kick helping old Mrs. Flick,
Doing any odd jobs she could find.
Mrs. Flick was her friend, who lived at the end
Of the road near the village green.
Fanny wouldn't take pay. "It's enough", she would say,
"To see you house shiny and clean."
All around Tinkum Tay, Fanny dashed all the day,
Working hard helping folk here and there.
Cleaning windows and doors, doing all sorts of chores,
And doing them all with great care.
She collected the eggs for old farmer Peggs,
And took them round to the store.
Then she went to the dairy to help his wife Mary
When milking time came round at four.
When the milking was done she would gaze at the sun
Sinking low in the sky and would say,
"The work is all done and it has been such fun
But I think now I'll call it a day."
One day she called round to help Mrs. Pound
Just like she had promised to do,
But her friend Mrs. Pound just could not be found,
Mrs. Flick's house was quite empty too.
She ran round to two other friends that she knew,
But neither of them answered her call.
Even down at the store it said CLOSED on the door,
Fanny could not understand it at all.
She went to the dairy but couldn't find Mary,
Nor could she find farmer Peggs.
She let out a cry and said, "Oh My Oh MY!,
How can I deliver the eggs?"
She set off for home feeling lost and alone
When she could not find P.C. Tom Game,
But she got quite a shock by the old village clock
When she heard someone calling her name.
She walked over to see just who it could be
But there was just no-one in sight.
She set off once more, but just then she saw
In the Village Hall there was a light.
She ran to the hall taking care not to fall
And couldn't believe her eyes,
Inside the hall were her friends one and all,
And together they all yelled, 'SURPRISE!!'
Happy Birthday To You, Happy Birthday To You,
The village band started to play.
There was old Mrs. Flick beating time with her stick,
Fanny just did not know what to say.
Mrs. Pound looking grand went and took Fanny's hand
And leading her into the Hall.
Said, "It's your birthday and yet, we knew you'd forget
You're so busy helping us all."
"You work hard all day, but never take pay
For all the things that you do.
So all Tinkum Tay got together to say
'Fanny Fusspot today is for you'"
