I found this recipe on a Hawaiian radio station site (don't ask) and thought of all you choccyholics out there Ingredients 5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE 4 tablespoons flour 4 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons cocoa 1 egg 3 tablespoons milk 3 tablespoons oil 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional) a small splash of vanilla extract 1 large coffee mug Instructions Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, AND MIX AGAIN! Place your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous) And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

My lad is quite impressed with this...he's scouring the cupboards as I type for weird shaped mugs.

It works just as well without the three tablespoons of oil!

I just made this cake and after he did a double take, the first thing Retired Father said upon seeing the huge mug with cake overflowing was 'is that mine?!'

I've just made this and when it says 'large coffee mug' it obviously means larger than my largest one! Still, it looks quite magnificent in a chocolatey volcanic sort of way!

Phill, could I use drinking chocolate instead of cocoa? also I've only got a 600(650?) microwave so would about 5 minutes do the trick? No prize for guessing who only uses it for soup/beans/swettcorn etc. Thankyou it looks really yummy xx

I guess so Love, all I would suggest is that you make sure that you TOTALLY stir the ingredients before cooking!

Drinking chocolate usually has a high sugar content for instance.

Darn it, I hate cocoa, but then if I use choccy and no oil maybe that would cancell something out if that makes sense oh eck I shouldn't even think about it really, my teeth are screaming at the the thought!! xx

But with all the sugar in the cake mix, you need the cocoa powder to make it taste chocolatey.

we tried it today with drinking chocolate and one spoonful of oil - PMN-M declared it reminded him of the dog's spongy ball! (NB dog toy variety, not anatomy!)
It did taste quite nice - a bit more like a steamed pudding than a cake. Next time I'll try it exactly as the recipe and see the difference.
