I don't do Christmas cards, except to relatives or friends I rarely see, and have been under great pressure to send a card to colleagues. Last year I sent a powerpoint presentation of photos I had taken with a peice of prose I wrote, this year I sent this:
Another year is ending now And ice now frosts the leafless bough: The skeleton can now be seen That once was hidden in the green Puddles freeze and steering's light Mornings are as dark as night Then they dazzle with low sun Winter driving is no fun. The skies are clear, the stars shine bright Afternoons are dark as night Days are short but work seems longer Yet winter is a time of wonder.
There's tinsel in the ward clerk's hair And trees in every office, where The flashing lights and garlands blow. Everywhere there's pretend snow. Colleagues all are making lists Of cards for those who can't be missed And now advice is being sought Then Secret Santa presents bought. Flashing bells hang from the ear Of colleagues who, this time of year, Forget the quarrels and decide To put all ill-feeling aside And join in wishing all the best To everyone, and all the rest And find that it's a real Godsend, That every colleague is a friend.
