I've mostly beencooking!
I started doing some Brown Ale & Cheese Bread - a Hairy Bakers recipe (see the Beeb website). I always planned to mix and rise it in the breadmaker and then cook it in the oven - fortunately! Not sure if my yeast is getting a bit stale but it really hadn't risen much at all when the program on the machine was finished. I decided to try and retrieve it so took the dough out and put it ona baking sheet in a very low oven (we don't have an airing cupboard). It didn't so much rise as spread! Either way, once cooked and served with soup (see below) it was delicious.
Second run was another batch of red onion and sweet pepper relish. Bit of a disaster as I found I didn't have enough cider vinegar or muscavado sugar. I made the liquid volume up with brown ale (remains from the bread) and cider (not needed for the soup). Dunno what it'll taste like! It was a bit liquid even once boiled vigorously, but I took the solid out and left some of the liquid behind. I've got 6 jars now to wipe over and label.
The third thing, to go with the bread, was the Hairy Baker's Onion and Cider soup (actually they put apple in as well). Again recipe on the beeb site. This worked well, but didn't have quite as much flavour as I expected. Not sure why, but it was nice enough.
