........ an unreserved, well almost, recommendation. The people who own Glendoick are probably the finest specialists for rhododendrons and azaleas - anywhere. They also have extensive gardens which are open to the public in May and June. We went yesterday when the rhodies were at their finest, although many still had to bloom. If anyone is in the area of Dundee and Perth, I heartily recommend a visit - it's hard to imagine that anyone other than a plastic and concrete addict could be disappointed. Note the times though - apart from Saturdays and Sundays in May, they are only open on weekdays. A warning though - if you do go, be prepared to spend some serious money in the garden centre - the plants are very well kept, but they aren't cheap. The choice of rhodies and azaleas is hideously tempting - we've never come away without one, or two, or three and there lots of other unrelated and very tempting shrubs and perrenials.

Also - Branklin Garden (National Trust for Scotland) in Perth. Be quick or you'll have missed the best of it.

I've been to Branklin only once, and that was in early autumn, so thanks for the tip. However, in the same vein, Dundee Botanic Gardens are good, but for anyone who loves trees, they're magnificent any time of the year.
