I have a white climber, no idea what it is, other than a rose. Problem is that the minute it flowers, it looks dead. The roses bloom and look tatty and dead, almost as if they have had serious rain damage. Any ideas anyone? Thanks, Faery. x

Have you tried feeding it plenty of bonemeal? I think roses like bonemeal. Or a proprietary rose fertiliser.
Fish blood and bone is good too, apparently.
Roses need feeding in Spring and again when pruned in Autumn; if using an organic fertiliser like bonemeal, it's best applied a few weeks before pruning so it has time to work in to the soil before you prune the shrub and rob the plant of nutrients.

Roses also like potassium.
Whem we moved here the roses were in a very bad way. We've pruned them fairly hard for a few years now. Also when anyone has a banana, we place the discarded skin at the base of a rose and just leave it there until it rots away. They love it and are now flourishing.

I'm no expert on roses Faery, but it sounds as though the flowers are starting to rot in the buds, so it may be worth trying a systemic fungicide.
I'd never heard of using banana skins for roses - thanks for a brilliant tip Sooz.
