Over the years I've always had a fair success with runner beans but not this year. I think the frost got to them even though I had the tepee surrounded with fleece. I didn't plant them out till June as I live in Scotland and that normally does the trick. They are not much cop at all now I've removed the fleece. The trouble is I always plant sweet-peas to grow through them and they are doing fine but are going to look pretty silly on their own particularly as I've only planted them against about half of the tepee poles.
I don't want to uproot them but the structure is taking up one half of one of my four foot beds. [And I've only got three of those]. Is it too late do you think to plant some more beans, always assuming I can get some beans to plant as I used them all. Or any suggestions as to what I could grow to compliment the sweet peas? All suggestions will be considered!

I suppose the easiest 'fix' would be to either buy some runner bean plants or find a friendly gardener with some spare plants they could give you. At least those plants would be part grown and have a bit of head start.
You could try planting some more beans now that the weather is warmer but I'm not sure you'll get too much of a crop starting them this late.
Good luck!

I'd go for more runner beans - start them off in a propagator or warm spot in the house and they should be ready to harvest in mid to late September.

O.K. I got the last packet in the shop. Not my usual organic variety but needs must an' all that. I've soaked them over night and put them in the propagator to sprout so fingers crossed they shin up the poles in double quick time once planted out and we get beans for September. Thank you!
