I have a rather splendid Broom, sorry don't know the Sunday name for it, and for the first time it has produced seed pods on some of the branches.
Now, do I cut off all the branches (stems?) with the pods on, or do I leave them on , knowing that the pods will sap all the goodness ?

It seems to thrive perfectly well left alone, Peekie.
(Says someone who grew up on the shore of Loch Broom, named after the shrub, not the sweeping implement).
Let's just say I've seen a great deal of the stuff.

Broom is best lightly pruned just after flowering, but the seed pods will make no difference to its growth. Why not have a go at sowing the seeds when they're ripe? They usually germinate freely, although the new plants are not guaranteed to look like the parent plant. However, you never know - you may come up with a new and attractive cultivar.

Thanks folks, I did take the opportunity to cut some of the branches off as they were quite low on the front lawn and would have been caught by the mower, and have the seed pods from those , so I'll have a go at seedlings when they've dried out later in the year. I'll leave the rest on and let it get on with it,lol.

The last time I asked a question about broom my Drill Sergeant replied in the time honoured manner of drill sergeants everywhere.
