I have a slow cooker which mainly comes out at Christmas for the mulled wine but I used it the other day to cook an A -MA-A-A-ZING pheasant casserole, and would like to use it more to throw some things in the in the morning and come back to cooked dinner at the end of the day particularly now we are getting back to the cold nights when a warm stew is soooo welcoming. So cut the waffle...does anyone know of a good a slow cooker recipe book or have any slow cooker recipes they are willing to share with me.
Fank oo muchly

There is an almighty long thread all about it on the MSE forum (money saving expert) I just can't get the hang of it, so would love to get some ideas too. xx

As well as lots of stews and things, I have done a chicken in mine - sit it on some balls of rolled up foil so it's not sitting in its own fat all day. You sadly don't get the crispy skin, but it literally falls off the bone.
I've also done cheap cuts of beef too, though put them in with about a pint of stock.
Rice pudding is just gorgeous - if you go back a few pages on here, you'll find my thread about it!

One of the simplest recipes I know is:
chicken pieces - whatever you like; tin of Campbell's condensed cream of chicken or mushroom or celery or whatever you like; chopped onion; ten-minute rice.
I might throw in some sweetcorn or carrots or other veggies too.
Add a couple of soup tins of water, maybe three, because the rice will absorb a lot of juice, and leave to cook on low all day while you're at work, or on high for say three hours or so, depending on quantities.
Jazz it up with garlic or Italian seasoning or red chilli flakes, it's easy enough to experiment with.
One thing to remember: things cook faster if they are already at boiling temp when you sling them in the slowcooker.

I've just had a look at the website MM and I reckon I've been adding too much stock, as well as looking at it too much!! May well try the beef stew soon, so thank you again for the link. xx

Try sausages, just brown them first then put in pot with tin of tomatos, sliced carrots, potatoes and stock. Add half tin of baked beans if you like them. I sometimes add a good dollop of brown sauce. Enjoy.

I do "braised" steak in mine. But you can cheat and use the cheapest stewing steak and it'll melt in your mouth!
Sear the stak in a frying pan, add it to the cooker with - well I use Oxo gravy made up with 2 cubes per half pintish or 3 to a pint - and onions, leave it all day. Cook up some spuds and veg and enjoy ........ mmmmmmm!

This may sound daft but are they of real use to a couple particularly when one (me) is home most days?
I ask as I have been tempted (ooh Mother) but shy away as I fear it may be like the bread maker that I only remember about when we run out of bread.

I like to use mine - even when we're both home some or all of the day, it's great to be able to just chuck everything in the pot and get on with doing stuff around the house or in the garden.

They are definately worth having Carl as cooking a soup/stew/braised steak in it all day gives the food a "second day" taste - ie a stew always tastes better the second day!

I think they are amazing. Today I am doing a chilli for halloween tonight and will throw it all in and then get on with getting the house ready and then don't have to think about them. And the meat you cook literally falls off the bone and absorbs all the juices....since posting this I use it at least twice a week. Just love it. Will be posting some recipes soon

I'm hoping to get one for Xmas, although I should have actually TOLD someone that I wanted one, so it might not happen! I think they're fantastic, my mum had one, and I just have to get over my panic of leaving one on all day while I'm at shirk! Funnily enough, the Book People at work delivered a whole cookery book dedicated to Slow Cookers the other week, wish I'd bought it now.
