I was at a Jamie at home party last night. Twas a party planner bringing samples of Jamie Oliver kitchen (and other) stuff and the to show and sell and our hosts cooked a wonderful meal using Jamie recipes. The party planning woman put a dvd on of Jamie cooking stuff and just chatting and everyone sat around, mainly not listening to Jamie, and drinking wine. I really enjoyed it. The stuff is a bit overpriced in my opinion but very good quality all the same. I think they are a relatively new idea but it was an interesting twist on a dinner party.

I refuse to buy any of the overpriced stuff he endorses [same goes for Nigella]. Indeed I was bought one item (a totally pointless herb chopper (what's wrong with a decent Cooks Knife?) which I promptly donated to the local charity shop unopened. Sorry he turns me off big time.

I think he - and probably Nigella, too - will turn out to be a bit like Gary Rhodes and Anthony Worrall-Thompson. A flash in the pan that eventually fizzles out. Mind you, Jamie and Nigella have both been around longer than you might expect...
In fairness to Nigella, while I wouldn't buy anything she endorsed, there are some really good recipes in her books!

Yes, as I said it was a bit overpriced and lots of it was stuff you probably would not use on a day-to-day basis. I live on a narrowboat so have to be very careful what I buy, if it is not of use then it has to go (mainly) so I just bought a pasta jar to support my friend who had signed up for the party. I guess the Jamie stuff was incidental to a damn good night with friends.

Very true WW - any reason for an enjoyable night with friends sounds good to me.

I think it's a lovely idea as it seems like you had a lovely time and that's the main thing. If it got people chatting and having a good time, after coming for a Jamie party then where is the harm?
Although I'm sure the idea was supposed to be the other way around, you never know what ideas people will take home without realising it!
I'm sure it's meant to sell his stuff in the same way the Virgin parties sold Virgin make up and Ann Summers...and so on - but it doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing.
However this (and replies) has made me think about something but I'll start another thread...
