Very boringly, I was half way through cleaning our living room when it came on the radio news. The job didn't get finished that day.

Blimey, you were either cleaning early or heard the news late then - I heard it on the 6 a.m. news when I was getting up to go to work. When I told people at work, they didn't believe me.

Ah yes - but maybe Dora didn't hear any news until she was doing the housework?

It was lunch time before I heard the news and I was walking through Leeds city centre trying to get some xmas shopping done and wondering why every shop was playing John Lennon's "Imagine" continuously instead of the usual xmas rubbish that we get at this time of year. The 1 o'clock news came on and everyone was stopping to listen to it so I did too.

Getting ready for school I think ! I was seriously disappointed at the lack of a decent programme commemorating John last night. The Radio 2 show was ok until the Sugababes trashed 'Hard Days Night' and even of the dozen or so music channels only VH1 could be bothered to trawl out a few videos. The greatest songwriter of our age (IMO) ignored. Perhaps he would have fared better if he'd played a bit of football..... Rob

I was too busy chasing two recalcitrant sons round the house to get them off to school to be listening to the news bulletins until 10am.

I was living in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, which meant that, sadly, we didn't really hear the news in as great a detail as in UK. But I do remember getting the English newspapers the following day and being very shocked and saddened at the death of John Lennon, the "lad" from my home town. Hugz Iona xx

I can't remember what I was doing, or even what time I heard the news.
I can remember what I was doing when Elvis Presley died tho, I was listening to the radio, the children where in bed and hubby was out. So I recorded the whole of the station I was listening to, because from then on, it was dedicated to Elvis. I still have the tape as well, wonder if it still plays?

I don't remember anything about Kennedy's death as I was 13 and probably not really into current affairs type news then.........just into boys.......boys and more boys. But I was in the baff on the Saturday (Sunday?) morning when I heard about Princess Diana. I shouted down to MC to ask him why he'd changed from our usual Radio programme cos the only music playing was miserable stuff. I thought he was joking when he came up and told me Princess Diana was dead! Oh, what a sad day that was. Hugz Iona xx

Where were you when you heard John Lennon had been shot? I was in hospital trying not to give birth to my daughter because it was 6 weeks too soon. Just going to bed. I was 11 and my cousin phoned from Newyork. She lived 2 blocks up from the Dekota building and told us waht had happened.... I spent the hole night crying! Dad and the regulars spent the night in the bar waiting for more news on the radio. Any excuse for a P*** UP.
