How long should a water butt last? Mine is big black and made of plastic. Supplied by the council at a cost of about £20. I have had this about 3 years and one of my friends has told me it has a hair line crack in it! I was shocked! Can anyone offer me advice such as can I get it fixed? Or will I have to obtain a new one. Thanks in advance. Love TT xxxx

You might be able to repair it with mastic or some such?
We bought our water butts (7 in total) from Wilkinsons and the oldest of those is about 4 years old now. As far as we know, it has no problems - exept too much flaming rain at the moment!!!

Or try a silicon sealer on it. It may help it last a bit longer!

I had one through a council offer which lasted just under 4 years, unfortunately it decided when full to fall off the stand, knock over the rabbit and guinea pig hutches and thankfully they tube to the down pipe just tore instead of bringing the guttering down with it. Thankfully the animals were ok but they were very shook up and very wet as over 200 lts of water ran under their hutches whilst they were face down with the open side on the ground (if that makes sense)

Update I had had my water butt since 2003. I foind the leaflet (it pays to hoard sometimes!) Rang the number and was told it had a 10 year guarentee and so I can have a replacement within the next 28 days by then we will probably be having a heatwave!!!! Love TT xxxx

Excellent news Terri! If anyone else has the same problem but no guarantee, Duck tape (the next most important invention after the wheel) will sort it.
