Sorry, I can't help, mainly because mint always dies on me too!
I have tried growing it in pots and the ground and failed miserably with both.
Are there different mint varieties that maybe Terri and I could try?

There are lots of different varieties to try. The only other thing I can suggest is to say that mint is very thirsty.

Mine is some MIL gave me, as a root. It is now over 2ft wide and is only resticted the other way by the patio. It is the most abused plant in the garden. I never look after it, I just leave it to ramble then every so often PMS attacks it with the shears and pulls a lot up and puts it in the garden waste bin. It then shoots again. Its soil it terrible, but it drains well.

We planted one lot in a sunken pot. It has now defeated us by layering itself outside the pot and then that inside the pot died

I've never had trouble with mints apart from the few that are not completely hardy like pineapple mint. But I've always grown it in big pots, which it soon fills up. The only oter thing I can say that might be relevant is that I've found apple mint to be the most invasive when in the garden, but I don't like the taste. Spearmint and peppermint have a much better taste, but are relatively slow growing and Morrocan mint has the best flavour as far as I'm concerned, but is a slow grower and is not completely hardy. They are susceptible to a variety of pests and diseases. Did the leaves just die or did they discolour and show signs of infection first?

Hi Fi As I am visually impaired (can't see bugs). They looked as if a white spider had gone over them. I know bugs do get them but as I can't see them I am not too sure. The white stuff was not like (coockoo spit) not knowing the botanical name! More greyish I think! Sorry to be so vague! Think I must be having a senior moment!!!! Love TT xxxx

I did it the easy way and got ready potted mint from the supermarket. It is probably a hardy strain, and when I transplanted it into a strawberry pot, together with other herbs, it has hung on in there. I once got some Chocolate Mint from a garden centre, but the frost got to it, and I can't find it again, very disappointing, as it was lovely, especially in jugs of iced fruit juice and Pyms.
