I've grown them from seed, but they've gone all straggly with gert big leaves, quite a few of which are yellow, and one or two average size flowers. I know they're supposed to straggle a bit, but they just look overgrown and untidy.

Can you post a pic? Nasturtiums flourish in poor soil. If the ground has too many nutrients etc then they just make loads of leaf growth. They need to feel threatened - so show them the deep fat fryer

Don't worry if they have black fly... for some reason loads of black fly never bother nasturtiums.

Yes mine are too lush too - lots and lots a very large leaves and only the occasional flower.
I know they do best in very poor soil so mine seems to have been enriched too much. I try to plant them in rough corners of the garden but some have selfseeded from last year on more fertile ground.
Still, at the very least they are providing ground cover and helping to keep down the weeds.

It's too much rain and not enough sun after germination Jan. But the flowers still taste good in salads! xx
