Greetings one and all From the rain-lashed middle of nowhere & the edge of the fens, another sexless day only two unrequited female flowers, not a male flower in sight, I'm thinking of a "Flying courgette pollen service". Or is there a way of preserving pollen for future use? Regards Meltemi, the etesian wind.

Well now! I've just watched Jamie Oliver's programme about courgettes and his gardener says they are pollinated by bees. The small flowers with a thin stalk are male, so much easier when you can see what they mean. Not sure if it's repeated but worth watching if it is!

Yep bees'll do it and I am sure your "wiping" way will work eventually!

Gretings one all from Meltemi & the Memsahib, We are pleased to announce that tonight there will be Three female flowers dropping off to sleep with a knowing smile on their coy little faces. Have baked a Gluten-free Banana & Ginger spice cake to celebrate, bottle of "cheznous" pink nicely chilling for the return of the memsahib from her labours. Regards Meltemi, the etesian wind.

Greetings one & all, Obviously yesterday was a swan song effort, they excelled themselves, a spent force, too much of a good thing etc...not a flower in sight. the cake, a bit heavy...but often happens with GF cookery...The wine, a taste of last summer, Hey-ho off to sainsbugs, feel a courgette & feta with dill pie (with GF pastry) coming on.

Greetings Lemaine, Rotting potential courgettes...unrequited female, not fertilised...dies & drops off...quite sad & all that... No further happy moments to report. The 3 females from 15-08-07 show signs of gently swelling pride...hopefully a meal at last?

Greetings one & all, There is a strange glowing golden globe in the sky...three courgettes for the weekend...the perishers will be left to their own devices until consignment to the compost bin when the winter is in full swing...drat one of the cunning neighbours has spotted the ruse re the odd fresh morning dew delivery...more worryingly one of the memsahib's friends may have rumbled me here! What to do? No its not me..? It's a fair cop come clean? Advice preferably in plain cover welcome.

Greetings one & all, courgettes continue in an asexual state, memsahib pressing for their consignment to the compost bin in readiness for next year. She's taken the ideas on "compost" to heart, but it's still my fault that they have failed so miserably. Meanwhile the three potted aubergines growing in the mini-greenhouse (sounds grand for a plastic edifice from "Focus" now in it's second cover in five years) have finally turned productive thir flowers are very pretty lavender colour to look at but viscious to the touch. These are left to their own devices, as it were for sex, I think that the flies do it...not a bee in sight this year. There are five fruits about the size of a goose egg & swelling daily...feel a Gluten-free mousaka comming on soon.
