I bought two plants on the same day, both with beautiful blooms. The orange/pink one I planted in the garden and it has kept blooming. The bright red one I put in a pot and though it gets more buds thyan the other one, they are dropping off before flowering. Both are on an automatic watering system. Any advice please?
Luv, MMP! XX

Is the pot big enough? Might need replanting so that it can stretch properly!

Mary, it may be that the pot plant is not getting enough water, (especially if it's a clay pot, rather than plastic in spite of the automatic system. Alternatively it could just be that the plant needs a bit of fertilizing - the latter is always my first try when flowers are dropping off. One other thought is why not take it out of the pot and plant it in a similar spot to the pink one?

Marym, check its roots before you plant it - some nasty may be eating them or there may be some other similar problem. If I had the nerve, I'd knock every plant out of its pot before buying it - this isn't very popular with nursery owners, so I wait until I get home and do it then. If I'm not happy I take it back immediately and ask for a replacement - most times the nursery owners are happy to oblige. xx
