I looked to see if there were any on Christmas day but I couldn't see any. Then this morning I noticed that one flower of G. Lady Elizabeth Stanley is now open - but hiding in the undergrowth.
Also I see that one of my primrose plants has started to flower - I mean the real primrose not that cultivated ones that say they are primroses, but have no perfume.

Don't have any snowdrops out, but the cowslips have been in flower for the best part of this month!

Not a snowdrop and not in my garden, but a stray from a nearby garden seen on Boxing Day!

On Sunday 30th December there were loads of miniature daffodils in full bloom on the pathways around here.

For the serious Galanthophile...Angelesey Abbey (a NT site) North Cambridge CB25 9EJ until 24-02-08.
For a natural setting...Thorney Abbey, after a 50 year campaign, a quiet village off the A47 to the East of Peterborough.

Chirk Castle (between Oswestry and Wrecsam) has a lovely snowdrop walk - it's usually open the first couple of weekends in February.

We went to the Snowdrop Festival at Dalmeny House yesterday. It got me wondering - how do bulb plants propagate naturally?

Quotes Ewan O'Root..."It got me wondering - how do bulb plants propagate naturally?"
Vegetative , vegetative, my dear boy, they bud-off new bulbs from their base plates...
Also the little boogers engage in...
sex...interbreeding...seeds...new cultivars & all that...
