It dwarfs the Blackbirds and Starlings and is soooo beautiful and it keeps coming to my garden! Well yesterday and this morning!
Hurrah!
It likes the currants!
;D
Currant typo amended! Didn't want you to think I was electrically charging the poor old thrush!

They are fantastic aren't they. We had a Filedfare last year but very little bird life this year as we had to stop putting their feed out due to a visitation of rats I noticed, last year a rat tip toeing across to the bird table, but I thought, if I want wild life, I will have to accept it in all forms. The big fat Mistle thrushes, reside in our garden as well, they love the berries on the Rowan trees. The Fieldfares, have also come for them. I love to see the Fieldfares rise up off the fields, when we are out walking. Last week, we were pleased to see a few Plovers, rise up. Something that has been a rarity for many years.

I have a feeling that a rat infestation is notifiable so no you do not have to put up with them and indeed may not be allowed to. Ours were despatched quite readily for free by the local council but we are still wary.

I live near open countryside, so the rats pay a visit, then clear off. If I was over run with them then I would notify and have them removed. We have field mice, who I think are lovely and I would also worry that they would eat any poison administered. We have a lot of owls, kestrels and buzzards, who appear to do a good 'clean up' job.

We don't get thrushes very often at all, mainly when it's the extreme cold weather.
However we now have resident collared doves , one of which is quite determined to see off a rather large wood pidgeon who visits at the same time every day. It's quite funny to see this dove, who's half the size of it's opponent, hunker down and charge it!

I love watching the birds when I'm "sat sitting" at my pc - neighbours have bird feeders in their gardens and behind our gardens are lots of trees. There's the usual starlings, blue tits, pigeons, sparrows, blackbirds, even a pair of magpies. But today I saw a bird I hadn't seen before, took a closer look with the binoculars, noted its markings & colourings, and have since identified it as a jay. I felt quite excited (doesn't take much!)

My mother had a love hate feeling for Jays - loved the looks but hated that they took young chicks. This as she tucked into her chicken dinner

Strangely enough the starlings and wood pigeons that share a pair of tall conifers as nesting sites don't. Always puzzled me the way the 3 varieties shared the same two trees (growing as if one) when, for the Maggies, it must have been like living over a take away. I hardly imagine Mrs Starling asking - "Do you want fries with that"?

I have just sat and had a cuppa down the garden and threw some "suet to go" (berry flavour) near me and had a cheeky Robin and a nervous Blackbird come really close to get some! I was patting Jester at the time and I could feel the tension in him as he wanted to pounce but he behaved! Its lovely out there! And now I have to do my report.......
