I have found some of Greene's books a little hard-going sometimes. However, I can heartily recommend 'Monsignor Quixote'.
It is a tale of Spain at the end of the Franco era. Father Quixote of El Taboso is suddenly promoted to the rank of Monsignor, and goes on a journey in his Rocinante, and old Seat car, along with his very own Sancho Panza, the recently deposed mayor of the town.
Being a descendent of the original Don Quixote, the Monsignor tilts against the windmills of Spanish society, namely the Guardia Civil.
I love the book. It is one of my favourites.
I commend it to the house.
