It was announced yesterday that Terry Pratchett is suffering from a rare form of early onset Alzheimer's. Pratchett's StatementI just found this so sad. He's brought so much fun into the lives of so many people, and seems to be a really lovely man - a friend of mine has been lucky enough to interview him four times now and although she's no fan of his work really likes him.

How awful. I am so sorry to hear this. His attitude towards his diagnosis is a true mark of the man. Natural justice falls very short sometimes.

My eldest son and I are big Pratchett fans, and have most of his books. I even have a couple of the Discworld figurines in my cabinet. I wish him well, very sad news.

AAAAAAAAAARGH my post vanished!
It is only 5 minutes since I got into his stuff but it is a funny old world and an even weirder condition so who knows how much material he still has to give us before we lose him?
Anyhoo - as I came to him rather late, there are dozens of books still unread by me.

The man is a genius and I am sure that he has much more to write still. As he says "He Atent dead!"

This really is tragic news.
I've been a fan for several years and own many of his books (I've read nearly all of them, including the children's ones).
There are very few writers who have had such a major impact - a while back I was at the funeral of Mike, a very good friend from the boating world. He was also active on the Pratchett forums, and there was at least one person at the funeral from those forums (fora?) who had never met Mike but had been drawn in to an iffinity with him through Terry's work.
Having had two friends suffer from similar conditions over the last couple of years (both now in long term residential care) I am shocked that such a thing has happened to Terry - all thoughts go to him his family and his legion of fans.
