Down along the canal today I saw:
A Kestrel
A Heron
Lots of assorted Tits, Blackbirds & Fieldfares
But best of all......
A Kingfisher - 3 times as Jester and I kept catching him up!

You are lucky Sharon, I have only seen a kingfisher once. We have buzzards in our area, which we didn't until a few years ago. Although we see them nearly every time on our walk, I still get excited.

I went heading towards the Trent where, on the other side, a gaggle of Buzzards can be spotted sometimes.
But the Trent met us a good 3/4 of a mile nearer than it usually is so we headed down the canal instead and I'm glad we did!

Mel & thememsahib know of a Greek beach where at the start or end of the season you can lay out on the sunbed and have the little fish nibbling your toes in the sea...and...kingfishers swooping in for a meal...true.

All I ever see are mad dogs and English men when I go for walks in the park.

I have just returned from off the airfield here at Brize norton where I have been visiting the King fisher and making sure he is OK. We also have great crested newts and a family of water voles on the site.
Some days I love my job

Just come back from my walk up on the Mendips in Somerset. Fantastic sunny October afternoon. Saw a flock of about 50 Goldfinches , 4 buzzards and two Ravens! Fantastic, all on my doorstep - can't get better than that.

I saw such a flock [or more correctly a 'Charm'] of Goldfinches some years back on Clodgy just outside St Ives absolutely fantastic.
I apologise for correcting the term but I think it so well describes the sight of massed Goldfinches it was worth breaking my vow of Non Pedantry.

All I saw in St. Ives were big fat seagulls! I would love to see a Charm... maybe one day.
