I come from a Roman catholic background though I have been a Baptist for quite awhile now.
I attended my sisters wedding in Balloch, Scotland at a Roman Catholic church called St Kessogs.
What I found strange was that although some of the service was familiar, some of it wasn't and I was completely lost at times.
If there are any Catholics on the boards could they tell me if Mass has been altered in any way since Pope Benedict was elected Pope?

I wonder if Lord L is willing to help?
Do we have no Roman Catholic priests who are togs? Does anyone know?
I'm sure we must have some RC togs around.

Mass hasn't been altered as it would take a much longer period of time to introduce such changes.

As far as I understand it, Beau, they all base their worship on the text of the Bible, but focus on different aspects of it. They also carry out their worship/services in different ways.
That's my knowledge exhausted.

Beau, That's a very helpful question. I started to answer it here but it turned into an essay! So, I think it best if I start a new thread called, Why different Christian Denominations? - and try to answer that question there. Others can then join in the discussion and share their understanding of these differences - as Leigh has already done.

Quite right Leigh. There are also differences in Church government which I have touched on a little in the 'Why Different Christian Denominations?' thread.

Put very simply Beau; The Methodists came about after one of the Wesley brothers started a house group, he never meant for it to become a denomination. The C of E came about as a result of ol' Henry the 8th who wanted a divorce and was refused by the pope at the time so he started his own church. The Baptists came about from a group called The Ana Baptists I'm not sure which century that happened, I think it was the 17th. The Methodists and Baptists at one point had to worship in secrecy because non confirmist churches were not allowed. Hope this helps! I'm sure Reverend Michael can fill in the bits I may ahve missed out.

Except the Anabaptists developed quite separately from the English Baptists - but they had similar beliefs and practices.
