The other week hubby and I moved my fruit trees away from the fence they were growing up as they were not doing so good. We put them on a bit of garden that gets hot in summer and needed re-turfing, so instead of turfing we dug it over, moved the trees improving the soil as we went.
Yesterday Tyg2 and I went to the local home hardware store and brought some plants. His choice and mine.
Today, the pair of us have planted:
Along the path: 3 Cordilines and two peach coloured roses, alternately. In between these are marigolds (explained about companion planting as we went...hope I got it right!), and some marjoram and corriander.
Behind these: in 3 'beds' seperated by tygs stomped pathways are; red onions (what a lot of seedlings we got of these! One mini tray and it was full!) in two beds, then in the middle we planted in alternate rows Silver Beet (rainbow variety for colour) and Beetroot.
Beside the shed: Tyg planted alternately snow peas and dwarf beans. (Need string set up for them to grow up.
At the back fence: 1 Climbing rose and eventually sweet peas.
As I was planting, I was thinking of Fi's advice on planting veggies. Hopefully the red onions will look like grasses, the beet leaves will add colour and the roses will give flowers. The fruit trees are focal points.
Each small tray of seedlings cost $2.95, and there were seven all different. Hopefully next year we will be organised to plant the actual seeds that are cheeper!
Once it has established, I will take some pics for you.
