JAM ROLY POLY AND CUSTARD
His mother had asked him time and again to tidy his room but when she walked into it late that afternoon, it resembles a plane crash and she blew her top.
No tidy – no BIKE!! For a WEEK!! It was school holidays and his friends would laugh and point as they rode by on their way to the rec, his big brother with them.
He sat on his bed wondering how he’d get on in the big world outside. He’d definitely take his bike, valuable transport. Hmmm..He’d need one or two of his toys as well but he’d decide which ones while he packed his Bob the Builder rucksack (never could give it up and wasn’t it a good thing now?). In went his Spiderman pj’s, a spare tee shirt and a half eaten Curly Wurly.
His tummy rumbled; he was hungry. What day was it? Wednesday!! It was jam roly poly and custard day!!!
He’d stay, this time…but they’d jolly well better watch out.

Oh Nuala, you've brought back a memory long forgotten of when I left home!
I must have been around 7 or 8 I suppose, and I took a bag with my teddy called Boo Boo in (that's all I remember packing!). I only went to my best friends house though, so I suppose it didn't count as really leaving home! I remember saying to her mum when she answered the door ' I've left home Auntie Marian' - she said 'you'd better come in then'!
I still have Boo Boo ;D
Thank you.

A lovely story Lily, thank YOU. I don't suppose you can even remember what it was all about. I've read back through diaries which contained phrases like ' some of the things he said to me, I'll NEVER forget' But I did. No idea. Youth and innocence are such precious gifts that a lot of today's children are robbed of. Do you ever remember the time when it suddenly dawned on you that your mother didn't know everything after all ? xx

Lovely Nuala! Reminds me of the time I 'apparantly' ran away from home because my mum wouldn't let me eat the chocolate buttons I knew were about.. well not before dinner anyway.
I ran away to the end of the little green our house was on, approx 20 feet!

Great story Nuala. One of the may times I left home I got as far as my friend's house but he wasn't there. It turned out he had left home about the same time and gone to MY house!

Oh boy Lily! Wouldn't you just like to do it now, sometimes. Turn your back and say..Get on with it....I'm just going to savour that thought for a moment.
