Born to RunI didn't realise when I ordered it that this is a kids' book. I figured that's not such a bad thing as I can lend it to R's kids. But I'm not sure if I can now - I sobbed all the way through reading it, and don't want to inflict that sort of grief on TYG1 who is a big animal-lover. I even cried on the last page which, as it turns out, does have a good ending. It's a good story and there are some lovely and accurate descriptions of the greyhound and his behaviour. It also demonstrates what can happen within the unscrupulous side of the greyhound racing industry, all too common before the Retired Greyhound Trust and other charities started to clean things up. Oh, and the dog pictured on the front came from the same rehoming kennel as Krystyna! *AMAZON LINK*

Whitby, not sure of the age of Redders kids but the reviews seem to be good regarding children reading it.

If anything they are all too old for the book in terms of reading ease - but it is a good story. TYG1 (12) may well shed a tear or two over it. TYG2 (10) is the 'sporty tomboy' - but she'd not as tough as she like so make out! TYG3 (8, boy) might enjoy it because he loves our hounds so much. Thinking about it, he's learned a lot about dogs and how to care for them over the last six months, so it might prove to be an interesting read for him.

My Tyg read Marley and Me and cried for about a week. She decided to read it again but not read the end bit when he died - figure out that logic! Anyhow, I'm always on the look out for doggie stories that don't have the hero dying at the end so this could be a good one. Thank WW for bringing it to my notice. Her birthday is a couple of weeks away.......

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini made me burst into tears on the very last line
I also liked Kite Runner - his first book, but I was big and brave for that one

We had a deal - he'd read my book if I read one of his history books. I hate history - but I'd better finish it off before they come back on Sunday!
